What to Bring to Your First Day on a Temp Assignment

Congratulations, you're placed! A great first day sets the tone for the whole assignment, and it's simpler than you might think. Here's how to show up ready.

What to bring

  • Valid photo ID and documents for I-9 verification (your recruiter will tell you exactly what's needed).
  • Any required safety gear your recruiter mentioned, such as steel-toe boots for warehouse or industrial roles.
  • A way to track your hours if the site uses paper time sheets, plus a pen.
  • Water and a snack or lunch, especially for longer shifts.
  • Your recruiter's phone number, in case you have any questions when you arrive.

What to wear

When in doubt, dress a step nicer than you think you need to. For light industrial and warehouse roles, wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable, work-appropriate clothing. For clerical and office roles, business casual is a safe bet. Your recruiter will give you the specifics for your assignment.

How to make a great first impression

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early. Being on time and ready is the single most important thing on day one.
  • Bring a good attitude. Employers remember people who are friendly, willing, and easy to work with.
  • Ask questions. It's better to ask than to guess.
  • Let us know how it went. Your recruiter is your advocate, so keep them in the loop.
